George Pullicino, B.E.&A. (Hons.), A. & CE, M.P.

Mr George Pullicino was born in Sliema in 1964. He finished his education at the University of Malta where he read architecture, specialising in Urban Planning. He practised as an architect since he graduated in 1990. Between 1994 and 1996 he was Chief Executive of the Malta Council for Science and Technology.

In 1980, Mr Pullicino was elected to the Executive Committee of the Maltese Christian Democrat Students Movement, eventually occupying various posts including that of President from 1984 to 1987. Between 1981 and 1982 he was also President of the New Lyceum Students' Council.

In 1987, Mr Pullicino was elected General Secretary of the Nationalist Party's Youth Movement. In 1990 he was elected President.

Mr Pullicino represented the Nationalist Party Youth Movement abroad on various occasions. Between 1990 and 1992, he was a member of the Executive Board of the European Young Christian Democrats being responsible for developing the organisation's policy towards European non-EEC countries and the environment.

Mr Pullicino contested the General Elections in 1992, 1996 and 1998 in the interests of the Nationalist Party and was first elected to Parliament in 1996.

Following the Nationalist Party victory at the General Elections of September 1998, Mr George Pullicino was appointed Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry for Home Affairs and the Environment. Mr. Pullicino assumed the responsibilities of Minister for Rural Affairs and the Environment in April 2003.  Following the appointment of Lawrence Gonzi as Prime Minister in April 2004, he confirmed George Pullicino in his post, a position which he maintained until March 2008.

In March 2008, Prime Minister Gonzi has reappointed George Pullicino as Minister, with the responsibility for Resources and Rural Affairs.

George Pullicino is married to Lourdes and they have a daughter, Mattea.
